At The Dental Hub Knaresborough, we’re proud to offer advanced Oral Surgery treatments for patients requiring more complex dental care. Whether you need a difficult tooth extraction, wisdom tooth removal, or treatment for an oral health concern, our experienced surgical team provides high-quality care with a calm, reassuring approach.
Our focus is always on delivering treatment safely, comfortably, and with as little stress as possible.

Oral Surgery involves the diagnosis and surgical treatment of conditions affecting the teeth, gums, jaw, and soft tissues of the mouth. This can range from routine extractions through to more advanced surgical procedures carried out by a specialist clinician. Many patients are referred for Oral Surgery when treatment is considered more complex due to factors such as impacted teeth, difficult root anatomy, medical conditions, or proximity to important nerves or sinus structures.
Being treated by a highly experienced Oral Surgeon can provide reassurance and improved outcomes for more complex procedures. Our aim is to make treatment as straightforward and comfortable as possible, even for patients who may feel nervous about dental surgery.
Our Oral Surgery treatments are led by Gillian Ainsworth, Specialist in Oral Surgery.
Gillian has over 25 years of experience in Oral Surgery and Maxillofacial Surgery, with a background spanning both hospital-based surgical care and private specialist practice.
Originally qualifying from the University of Sheffield, Gillian went on to complete extensive hospital training in Glasgow, Dumfries, Livingston, and Edinburgh, gaining experience in oral and maxillofacial surgery; complex surgical extractions; management of facial trauma; head and neck surgery, and; orthognathic (jaw correction) surgery.

Gillian was awarded a Fellowship in Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and later completed the UK’s first specialist training programme in Surgical Dentistry (now Oral Surgery) at the Edinburgh Postgraduate Dental Institute. She holds a Master of Science with Distinction from the University of Edinburgh and is listed on the General Dental Council’s Specialist Register in Oral Surgery.
Over the course of her career, Gillian has also spent many years teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate dentists in Oral Surgery at Glasgow Dental Hospital, reflecting her depth of knowledge and experience within the field.

Most patients are suitable for Oral Surgery treatment, though every case is different. During your consultation, we’ll assess your dental health, medical history, and any scans or X-rays required to plan your treatment safely.
We regularly treat patients who:
Have been referred for difficult extractions
Feel anxious about treatment
Have complex dental or medical histories
Require surgical treatment before implants or orthodontics
If sedation is appropriate for you, we can discuss this during your consultation.
We begin with a detailed assessment, including any necessary X-rays or 3D scans. We’ll explain your diagnosis, treatment options, and answer any questions you may have.
Your procedure will be carried out carefully and comfortably using local anaesthetic, with conscious sedation available if preferred or clinically appropriate.
Following treatment, we’ll provide detailed aftercare advice and ongoing support to help ensure smooth healing and minimise discomfort.
Where needed, we’ll arrange follow-up appointments to monitor healing and ensure everything is progressing well.
Throughout your treatment, our team will ensure you feel fully supported and informed at every stage.

We understand that Oral Surgery can feel daunting for some patients. Conscious sedation is available for suitable treatments, helping you feel deeply relaxed and comfortable during your procedure while remaining conscious and able to respond. Further information about sedation is available here.
Our team will discuss whether sedation may be appropriate for you as part of your consultation.
As with any surgical procedure, Oral Surgery carries some risks, including swelling, bruising, bleeding, infection, or temporary discomfort after treatment. Certain procedures — particularly wisdom tooth removal — may also carry a small risk of nerve disturbance or sinus complications.
We’ll always explain any risks clearly before treatment and provide full aftercare guidance to support safe healing and recovery.
If you’ve been advised that you may need Oral Surgery, or would like to discuss treatment options in Knaresborough, our friendly team would be happy to help.
